A MESSAGE FROM THE NEW ATHLETIC DIRECTOR
Dear Shadyside Local Schools Parents and Guardians,
I hope this message finds you well. My name is Louie Matsakis, and I am honored to introduce myself as the new Athletic Director at Shadyside High School. As I am finishing my 2nd week back in Shadyside and I wanted to reach out to all of you.
I am a 1995 graduate of Shadyside High School and continued my academic and athletic career playing football at Emporia State University in Kansas, where I earned my degree. Following graduation, I began my career in athletics as a college football coach. Over the past 26 years, I have coached at a variety of institutions and competitive levels, including Texas Tech, the University of Kansas, the University of Kentucky, Texas State, Capital University, Youngstown State, and Caldwell University (NJ). These experiences have equipped me with the perspective and leadership necessary to serve and guide the Shadyside High School athletic department.
Shadyside has a strong tradition of pride, sportsmanship, and competitive excellence, and I am excited to work alongside our coaches, student-athletes, faculty, and families to continue building upon that foundation. Our athletic programs play a vital role in developing leadership, accountability, resilience, and teamwork in our students, qualities that extend far beyond competition.
As Athletic Director, my priorities will include:
Ensuring a safe and positive environment for all student-athletes
Supporting our coaches with clear expectations and professional development
Promoting academic accountability and character development
Strengthening communication between the athletic department and our families
Continuing to elevate the Tiger standard across all programs
Open communication is extremely important to me. If you ever have questions or concerns, I encourage you to follow the appropriate communication chain: first with your child’s coach, and then with me if necessary. My goal is to operate with transparency, consistency, and fairness in every decision we make.
In the coming weeks, I will be reviewing our department procedures, facilities, scheduling systems, and parent communication platforms to ensure we are operating efficiently and aligned with our mission. You will receive updated information regarding any procedural adjustments, important dates, and expectations.
Thank you for the trust you place in our athletic programs. It is a privilege to serve our student-athletes and community. I look forward to meeting many of you at upcoming events and competitions as we continue to support Shadyside Tiger athletics together.
Go Tigers!
Sincerely,
Louie Matsakis
Athletic Director
Shadyside High School
