Jefferson Avenue Elementary Families,

Welcome to the 2025-2026 school year! My name is Mr. Greg Mehlman, and I am the principal at Jefferson Avenue Elementary School. I am looking forward to a great year surrounding academic and social growth for the students at Jefferson Avenue Elementary School. The upcoming school year is quickly approaching with all staff returning to school on Monday, August 18, 2025. Open house will be from 3:30pm until 6:30pm on Monday, August 18, 2025. First and second grade students return to school on Wednesday, August 20, 2025. Preschool and kindergarten students will receive information regarding their start of the school year from the preschool and kindergarten teachers in August. Our school secretary, Mrs. Brooks, will return to regular office hours on Monday, August 4, 2025, from 8:00am until 3:00pm Monday – Friday.

Our dedicated staff members have worked endlessly this summer to prepare our facilities and curriculum for the students and families of Jefferson Elementary. Facility and operational updates include a few new pieces of playground equipment – they have been purchased and will be installed soon, an updated version of our handwriting curriculum, a phonics curricular support called Secret Stories, and increased security measures are in place to ensure the safety of our staff and students.

The beginning of the school year is a busy time of the year for everyone. We are hoping as a staff, to make this transition smooth for our students and families. I am looking forward to meeting with you all during open-house hours on Monday, August 18, 2025, from 3:30pm until 6:30pm. During this time, you will be able to meet your child’s teacher, drop off school supplies, tour the school, and meet with other parents and students.

Early education sets the foundation for your child’s success from this point forward in life. The staff at Jefferson Elementary is committed to providing you and your child an experience that is authentic, supportive, and enjoyable! We are prepared to have an exciting year of growth and authentic experiences at Jefferson Elementary!
